Spinach, onion and moong dhal

Hmm.. I thought I copied the recipe from indosungod(linked off my blog as Authentic Kongunadu recipes). Now, when I went back and looked, it wasnt exactly what I did. Anyways, the dish was very tasty and I liked it.

I soaked 3/4 cup of moong dhal for 20 minutes. Chopped 1/2 red onion and a bunch of spinach leaves. Grinded 2 small dry red chillies, with 2 tsp of coconut and 1/2 tsp of cumin seeds. Splattered mustard and urad dhal in heated oil, sauted cut onion with a pinch of turmeric till it turned slightly brown. Added the soaked moong dhal(after draining the water) and the ground paste. Sauted for 2 minutes with a bit of salt. Added the spinach to it, heating at medium high with closed lid. Checked for salt after 5 minutes, and cooked with lid open till the water drained.

The advantage of soaking moong dhal was, it need not be cooked separately and doesnt turn mushy in above dish. Onions and spinach taste awesome together and with moong dhal, it goes up one step higher, also making for a healthy meal.
