Astrology - Fate and You

People obsess with astrology so much that I wonder what role you as the "predictee" is responsible for. If fate/whatever has already decided on how everything in your life will be, why there is a need to do anything.. work hard, try to be a better person etc etc. It is like you are destined to be certain way irrespective of whatever you do. That really contradicts the purpose of life.
