Sizing and Pricing
I had gone to Specialtys for lunch with my manager. My manager's innocent comment about how the large size soup container is not really large enough and looks smaller than usual reminded me of a recent discussion on NPR. Many Food Producers have come up with this creative idea of marketing their product differently to combat rising food prices. The peanut jars for example, look the same and are priced the same as before. How did they manage that.. definitly not by cutting into their profit margin. Guess what.. the effective volume of the container has been deftly reduced by having a deeper dent on the bottom. Similarly with the cereal boxes.. they have maintained the height and breadth on the box facade.. but have reduced the thickness.. how often do we remember the netweight of these containers to notice the difference ?.
