Arent you wondering what the title means?. Its the mnemonic for the four presidents carved out of Mount Rushmore (Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, Rushmore). Everyone's brain is wired differently. What one means by that.. you can use different parts of your brain to remember/learn/convey something. For example, 9s' multiplication table.. the digits always add up to 9 .. 09 18 27 36 45 54 63 72 81 90. Hearing this over NPR reminded me of my middle school days. Let me tell you.. Math was not my forte especially when memorizing multiplication tables was the syllabi. When I started adding numbers, I used to put 1s' equivalent to the second number, and count starting from the next digit from the first number scoring out the 1 as I am counting it. I used it in the back of my note. When we moved on to multiplication tables, I knew tables from 1x1 -->12x10. When you give me two numbers to multiply.. I've to write down the multiplication table of one of the numbers to find the value. Well..pattern is what I used to learn my tables. Thank God.. my life didnt continue to be miserable beyond 5th grade since the school decided we were ready for Set theory and Algebra.
The best set of mnemonics were those created by my friend in our final semester of under grad when we were cramming for the exams. She used to create mnemonics using the college gossips and it used to be our little jokes when we see those folks.
